We are delighted to announce our Site Solutions Manager, Conor Thompson has joined the Institute of Quarrying (IOQ). Founded over 100 years ago, the IOQ provides an opportunity for highly skilled professionals in the mineral extraction industry to join forces in raising standards, sharing best practice and ultimately promoting the positive impact driven by the industry.

Having worked at Miller for almost 15 years, starting as an apprentice Fabricator Welder, Conor has extensive experience working across a variety of quarry operations from small setups through to large scale and owner operator sites.

Working in Miller’s special products division since 2011, which specialises in repair and refurbishments of plant equipment, as well as custom attachment build projects, Conor began field work very early on in his career, initially carrying out repairs on local mining sites, and once time served, applied his knowledge and expertise to deliver mobile repair works onsite at quarries spanning right across the UK.

And it is this experience of working amongst the largest quarry operators in the UK that has helped Miller to build the very highest health and safety standards in a workshop-based and in-field environment to mirror, if not exceed, the rigorous demands of operating in aggressive mineral extraction zones.

Speaking about joining the IOQ, Conor said: “I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to the IOQ, which I believe provides a fantastic hub to drive the industry forward and pooling together with helpful information from different pillars continues to improve standards whilst driving efficiencies.

“Having extensive firsthand experience in mobile plant repair – and understanding operations at every level, particularly the costs of ownership and production costing – I believe this insight will be useful to share. I also looking forward to gaining further knowledge from members of the IOQ, which will continue to bolster Miller’s Site Solutions business as we strive for continually growth.”

Conor will also be joining familiar faces within the IOQ, with representatives from Miller’s loyal quarry customer base, including Tarmac, Aggregate Industries, Breedon, Heidelberg and Cemex, and our plant hire customers including the likes of M J Hickey, as well as other key suppliers to the sector.
